Pan's Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth

This was a very interesting movie.
I liked it but it was very graphic.
I closed my eyes a few times and had to leave the room.
I always returned as soon as the violence was over.
The use of myth was very good.
Pan was wonderful.
The music haunting.
The story compeling.
I cared about the characters.

Sherry,

I only saw a portion of this movie, I can't remember the circumstances. I would love to see the whole thing. Did you have subtitles on yours?

Dear Sprite,
Our movie did have subtitles which never bothers me. Pan is really a Faun. In the spanish culture a faun is well known. In the American culture few would understand, thus when it was translated to English they used Pan. He is very well done. I so enjoyed the use of myth.
Some of the violence was too much for me. It is set in span in 1944. I can see why this movie won so many awards. The filming is fantastic and the actors are so good. Wonderful story too.
It is somewhat dark, an adult fairy tale of sorts.
Hope you get to see it.
I think you would really enjoy it.

Dearest Sherry,

I've always been attracted to the 'Faun' characters in storybooks and movies. Of course - always the thoughtful or gentle ones. I adore myth, and myth making, hehe.

Oh yes~ I know about Pan. Pan is akin to the "Green Man." In nature he represents the Male counterpart to the "Goddess," -or- nature "Herself."

I will definitely put this on my watch list.

Thank you for your wonderful reply!

LOVE THIS BLOG!

Love you!

Dear Sprite,
I would love to know what you think after you watch.
I too enjoy the myths and myth making. Years ago I took a college class, "Greek and Roman Mythology". One of our weekly assignments was to find the different mythological symbols that are still in our society. I was amazed!
I was an older adult when I took this class and did not know how influenced I was by myths.
It would be fun to do that again. Finding myth in everyday life. I best careful, I see another blog forming!! LOL
Love and light,
Sherry

I'm a native Spanish speaker, so I enjoyed and understood some of the dialogues and references much better than my fiance, Scottish, reading subtitles.
I believe that movies should be seen and understood in original language, otherwise they lose too much (same goes for books) but, hey, who can learn so many languages for so many wonderful (or not) movies? ;)
In this movie I loved the music and some of the cinematic effects, not bad for the first of Spain's attempt on mixing animation and 'real' life characters in a long film.

Dear Mel,
I agree movies and books should be read and seen in their orginal language but like you said how many languages can we know! Plus the references are cultural. I am sure I missed much not knowing the spanish culture very well.
I thought the film was very good. I do not do violence very well. I get very upset so it is best for me to look away or to just leave the room until that part is over.
The musical score was great!
